Research Group on Natural Computing

I am interested on developing new high-performance software tools for simulating bio-inspired computing models, specifically, for membrane (P) systems. The massively parallelism that they inherently present is a challenge to be efficiently simulated. Tools from High Performance Computing become essential for this purpose. GPUs supporting CUDA are new massively data-parallel processors that are well suited to simulate P systems.
From 2014 to 2017, I was working at Fraunhofer IIS (Germany) on the development of parallel image coding techniques on GPUs, in the context of Digital Cinema (for postproduction tools and broadcasting) with JPEG2000 and in lightweight compression environments with JPEGXS. I am also interested on applications of machine learning techniques such as Deep Learning to video archiving environments for classification.
